This week we’re taking a look at Looking for Group (or LfG), the epic-comic fantasy webcomic written by Ryan Sohmer and illustrated by Lar DeSouza.
Near the beginning, LfG reads like a World of Warcraft comic; however, it quickly establishes a universe of its own. From the new reader page:
Looking For Group is a free comic that is updated several times a week and is generally looked at as a Fantasy/Science fiction parody series that pokes heavy fun at everything World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings,Wheel of Time, RA Salvatore, Dungeons & Dragons, George RR Martin, Everquest, Star Wars and anything else we enjoy, derived from Video Games, Film, Television, Books and Graphic Novels.
One of the cast is Richard, a warlock (and one of my favorite characters in any comic) who gives hilarious new meaning to “chaotic evil.” He’s as likely to set up a judges’ table and critique his friends’ fighting during battle as he is to obliterate a village, and yet somehow manages to be charming the whole time… probably because he’s not someone I actually have to interact with in real life.
LfG updates twice a week, but for a full page comic as funny as this is well worth the wait. So far, two print collections have been released and an animated movie is in the works.
If you’re a fan of Terry Pratchett, Monty Python, or any sort of epic fantasy, you should check out Looking for Group. If you start at the beginning, you’ll be caught up in no time.
